Ken Decker was scheduled to undergo chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s disease which was going to leave him sterile. He froze his sperm before taking chemo treatments. This was 21 years ago.

After the invention of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ISCI) the doctors choose one good sperm and implanted it into one good egg. It took the Deckers more than three years with over 200 needle injections, four cycles with ISCI, and $90.000 before they succeeded. This is one of the longest times for a period of conception on medical record.

There has been a drastic increase in pregnancies since the invention of ISCI. Infertility is split 50-50 among males and females.
