Talking to your kids about drugs
So exactly when and how do you talk to your kids about drugs?
Do you just sit them down and give them the “lecture”?
Or, do you cop out and just give them a book?
When do you start talking about drugs?
I really like this video from our friends at Dad Labs because it mirrors my own strategy about the “drug talk”. But let me just add a few things.
- Don’t be a hypocrite… Your kids will know
- Be Honest
- Listen More … Speak Less
- Choose your timing
- Answer all their questions
- Give them a WHY.

Great advices. Communication is a necessity for effective parenting. First of all parents need to be educated about the drugs and its effects on health, then they should educate the kids with empathy and building a good parent-kid relationship. But still we see that lots of teens are into drug, alcohol abuse and even inhalant abuse. The reason for this not a narrow perspective view. The best a family can do is periodically check for the activities of teens and if they found some irregular behaviors or attitudes, they must intervene into matter efficiently.
