Octuplets and Octomom Nadya Suleman
Octuplets – octomom Nadya Suleman (as she’s colorfully been dubbed by the media) has just brought home 2 more of her brood of 8 newbies today. And this after she fired the nurses from Angels in Waiting. Unbelievable.
I was at the gym doing my best impersonation of Lance Armstrong (since I live in Austin) on the stationary bike when I see this story on the news. I never watch the news because it’s all negative. After reading various scientific studies which proved that For every 14 news stories, 13 are negative and only 1 is positive I don’t want to get myself depressed. With those kind of numbers it’s no wonder people are pissed off and depressed and sometimes go postal.
Since I’m a positive person I stay away from the negativity. I do get my news from Digg.com and Yahoo news. And I figure if it’s something extremely important my friends will tell me about it. So no need to watch network TV news.
But they had it on and I felt compelled to chime in after seeing this story unfold.
Audacity at its finest
Can you believe the gall of this woman? Already she had 6 pre-existing kids and no job. So naturally her first thought is to go spend over $10,000 to get in vitro fertilization. And the $10,000 came from the sale of her eggs! She wanted to get pregnant again and rationalized her actions with “I didn’t think it’d work.”
The story only gets stranger the deeper you go. And maybe that’s the point. Why is this woman, who’s only accomplishment (to be nice) is dubious/questionable decision making, a household name. Maybe she’s currently the mastermind behind the greatest publicity stunt in the history of time.
I know you maybe thinking this woman isn’t smart enough based on the decisions she’s made. But look at all the free air time she’s getting.
Calling all parents
Is this the biggest ‘court jester’ decision making moment in history or what? I’ve talked to many parents and most are completely stunned and more than momentarily speechless by this alarmingly bad decision making.
Mostly, you think about the financial security for your children and family. A place to live, food on the table, clothes on their backs, a decent neighborhood with good schools.
Then you think about paying for certain activities and a college fund.
Apparently, she was thinking “to hell with that plan. I’ll throw caution to the wind and see if this grand experiment works…no money…no job…house being foreclosed…no problem. Bring on more kids to compound the challenge.”
Is this the most selfish act you’ve ever seen? Weigh in with your opinion in the comments section.
Do these kids have a chance?
Looking at it from the children’s side what chance do they have. They’ll get almost no mommy time and very little love since she’ll be spread so thin. There are only so many hours in the day no matter how good her intentions are.
What possible scenario do you see them having a chance to succeed? Leave your comments below.
Culpability – assigning blame
Should the doctor’s be held accountable? These doctor clinics are running a business doing their in vitro treatments. But does the current family and circumstances of the woman have to be taken into account before they can accept her as a client.
Because as it stands now many Americans with no connection to this woman at all are going to be paying for her kids to grow up and getting no benefit from it. Only the cost.
So who’s going to be on the hook?
Unfortunately, for you Californians out there that’d be you. And since the budget out there is in such a deficit we the American taxpayer will be. Because California is the biggest bailout recipient of the states.
I just read today the octuplets are nurseless. She fired the Angels in Waiting nurses. Unbelievable.
I read in a scientific study done a few years ago that the average child today costs $1,000,000 to raise from birth to the age of 18. So by these numbers you and me are looking at $11 -$13 mil since some of the kids are already a few years old and hopefully, Nadia will pay some of their bills.
How is this fair?
I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts and comments regarding the octuplets and Angelina Jolie wanna be Nadya Suleman.

This is such a stragety for this children. Not to count the millions of Americans that will be paying her way through out the years. I have one (1) child. He’s a senior this year. I can’t even afford to buy his class ring. My 2nd husband left taking all the money, all the vehicles but not until he made sure he trained my savings. I was forced to retire because of recurring blood clots. Do you think I get help. I live with me mom and help take care of her while trying to take care of myself. Her house burned to the ground a couple of years ago. Our replacement house was falling apart before we got it but do you think we get help. It seems only people with MONEY get help from people and TV shows like Home MakeOver, help from Dr. Phil etc. We have millions of people in the same boat I’m in but it takes one person to have more children then they deserve to get all the attention and money that needs to be directed elsewhere. No wonder our country is in the shape it’s in. Not to count all the Berks the government takes out for itself that WE pay for.
